Tis alright.

It's rather generic melodic wise, it has no character to it, the mix wasn't so great either, the clap literally disappeared during parts of the song due everything mudding over it. The bass end sounds like its cut too high, there isn't really any sub boom to the song. Other then that, it's alright.

JohnnyFrizz responds:

Umm... no

But thanks anyway, you're probably right about the some of the mixing issues you pointed out, since I didn't use monitors when producing it, I used a 5.1 surround sound system, but "It's rather generic melodic wise"? okay if you are saying that just because I used a B-flat mayor scale which has been used millions of times (as well as all the other scales), then all of the music after Bach is rather generic dont you think? :)

Sounds more like eurodance that jumpstyle

The bassline was generic, both tonally and the sound of it itself. Sounds like you raped on the Nexus and Vengeance packs aswell. On the impacts, there was some terrible clipping/overcompression. The melody was kinda nice I guess.

You got a good ear for music, but you gotta learn to have a more original sound and learn to mix.

JumpstylezBeatz responds:

ill look into that foor my next one

cool

It's incredibly good for just layered vocals.

I don't know if the reverberation is real or artificial, but maybe you should choose a different room/reverb plugin because it's resonating way too much. If it's layered vocals, you should record the vocals dry otherwise the reverb will build upand be overly resonant.

Also, needs a bigger lower end, but I understand that maybe you wouldn't be able to do this since, it's only your voice..

And you should credit that it's from Final Fantasy X and composed by Nobuo Uematsu, just for legal sake.

VGSongbird responds:

I know; I thought I had put a disclaimer in there, but it looks like I forgot to. I'm usually so good about that too! I did post a disclaimer for it in my News Posts, but I'll fit it in the description as soon as I can (since it made the best of the week, I'm unable to edit now...)

The reverb was an added effect--most of my vocals I record in my bedroom! But I can see how the effect might've overpowered the song. I'll consider that when I redo this piece.

Thanks for your 9! ^_^

Hey

I'm just gonna point out the bad stuff and how you can improve, but don't fear it is a good song,I'm sure you can hear what you think is good in it.

Ok so the first thing that hit me is the kick drum, it has a kind of annoying stereo ambience to it, you should try mono-ing it, kick drums should always be mono, or as mono as they can be because it is supposed to be the most powerful and punchy component, and coming out of both speakers (mono) is where it can be it's powerfullest. You could try using a low cut envelope on it if your sampler has that.

The hatline is quite empty, hats tend to fill out tracks, especially ride cymbals. You should expand the hats to flesh the track out to make it sound more full and completed. Using hats to complement the rhythm of the bassline or lead is a good idea aswell.

The synth that had the longer notes and was sidechained sounded very good and pumpy, I think you should sidechain the other synth aswell, the one that hits the small third notes, not much as to upset the clarity of it, but to give it a little more pumpiness that's more consistent with the other synths.

And just a tip for reptitiveness, as most house producers usually fall into. I heard a producer one time say that you must try and do something interesting or progress somewhere every 8 bars to keep the listener interested, this is what most producers should really strive for, however subtle this event or progression may be. Just something to take on board.

Thar you go, request filled :P

Swerve responds:

Thank you very much for your quick response! :) I'll keep everything in mind. The track used to have a lot of hats and percussion, but sounded very cloggy, so I deleted a lot and yes, it is indeed a quite minimal hatline. I didn't add anything to the cymbal department after that, hence the sparseness.
And thanks for pointing the mono kick thing out, I would never have noticed.
We should talk to each other on MSN sometimes, if you would like to?

Thanks for reviewing.

awsum

anyway, i think it's a bit top heavy, i'm getting hardly any bass through my speakers. could be just me though.

Wow nice, for a days work this is pretty good. The intro was v.clean and housey, nice phat bass leading it, but as it went into the main part, the top end of the bass fell away. There's some very complex, moving synths in here, and the tone in the climaxy parts is nice. The kick is nice and strong, but I feel as if a nice phat sidechained supersaw pad or whatever could've made it so much more full and have more energy. The verses sounded very clean but I felt the choruses needed more filling. I also think some more atmospheric sounds could've been in there, the underlying choir did a good job but I think the crash could've been more epic and atmospheric.

hopeku responds:

haha you some some pretty good Ideas....

It's not I dont agree with you, but there's always something to fix in every song of mine and I just can edit them all
BUT, maybe that one is gonna be in my list of extended....who knows!

Thanks man!

...

Wow that was quite amazing. It sounded so uplifting and the dissonance just drops in and takes over. That was interesting, nice atmospheric sounds, I could get a picture of what your trying to say with this, in my head. What I'm getting from this is that this is a kind of dream turning into nightmare flashback, ending with the alarm to wake up. So are your next submissions going to be make out a full story?

Mrmilkcarton responds:

Not sure was thinking of entering the villain's theme next but I need to finish my Unleashed remix first. :P

Hmm.

What Kr1z said is right. His speakers ain't crud. The mix is clipping/limiting like hell and alot of your tracks are muddy.

Moltov responds:

Well if you took time to notice, I am new to making songs.. and I don't do it very much. I don't have the money to buy FL studio so I have to use the demo and I can't save and I have to use the presets.
